The Sweetest Proposal Ever
OKAY - For those of you who want the consdensed version, go to the bottom of this post. :o) Here's the detailed version:
John Marc called me on Thursday and told me that he wanted to go to Tallulah Falls that Saturday. I thought it was a little "short-notice," but went along with it thinking that it was cute that he wanted to take in the scenery and get away from everything else. We left Saturday morning, and were having fun listening to the radio (since he enjoys reminding me of the fact that he knows more songs than me) and talking. In the course of the conversation, he decided to inform me, knowing the whole time what he had planned, that he didn't think we would even be engaged until after I graduated. Since he knew how I felt about the subject, he thought it would be fun to play with me a little, I guess. But, I did not think it was such a fun subject to talk about, so there I sat, stewing over what he said, trying to bite my tongue and have a good time. When I couldn't take it anymore (about 3 minutes later) I told him exactly what I thought about it, and instead of receiving understanding or consideration, he laughed at me. This also did not cause me to be very happy; however, since we were taking a trip, I decided to have a good time
When we finally got to Tallulah Falls, the first thing John Marc noticed was all of the people around. When we drove into the parking lot, he commented on all the people. When we entered the tourist center, he commented on all the people. While we walked the trails, he commented on all the people. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why he all of the sudden had a people-phobia! But I just attributed it to the fact that he wanted to have a quiet day "away."
On one of the trails, we managed to run into a woman with her three children, who were slightly (or not-so-slightly) obnoxious. We decided to leave and go to another trail, but they followed. We tried to get away from them several times, but whereever we went, they followed! At one point, we were at the bottom of one of the trails, beside a beautiful waterfall. John Marc wanted to wait for a few minutes, so we sat on the bench beside the waterfall. Well, they sat down, too. When they wouldn't leave, he became quite irritated (an understatement), and stomped up the steps. I ran close behind, but due to the fact that I am (sssh, lazy), I couldn't keep up, and had to take several breaks. (There were ALOT of steps!)By this time, I was burning up, and had already taken off my light-weight jacket, and was wearing a short-sleeved t-shirt. But John Marc still had on his heavy coat. I was still burning up, and decided to offer to hold his jacket for him. But he refused, saying that he was not hot at all. Finally we stopped, as if we were tired, and allowed the woman and her kids to pass. They went down one trail, and we went down the other.
Finally, we found a secluded trail, and stopped by a site overlooking the dam. I was trying to be inquisitive and conversational, asking questions about the dam, how it worked, yada yada, but was receiving nothing but short responses back. So, I shut up. We were both facing the overlook, and he had his arms around me. All of the sudden he said "I love you," and of course I said "I love you" back. As I was turning around to look at him, he said, "I guess that's good, because...will you marry me?" Even with all of the weird reactions he had throughout the day, I was quite shocked.Obviously I said yes, but it was quickly followed by, "Your a butt-head," because I remembered our conversation from the car (where he told me that we wouldn't be engaged for another few years)! I took the ring, and tried to put it on my ring finger, but it was too big and I didn't want to lose it on the trails, so I decided to put it on my middle finger. During the switch (as I was still standing right beside the edge) I dropped the ring! I thought John Marc was going to pass out...But, luckily, I dropped it at my feet and not over the edge!!!
The Condensed Version:
We went to Tallulah Falls and he popped the question beside one of the overlooks.
The reason I think it is the sweetest engagement story ever is because he put so much thought into where to take me, the ring (that he designed himself), and how memorable he made the day with all his silly reactions. It will be a day I'll always remember.
So, since Whatagem started this idea for a post, why doesn't everyone join in? If you're engaged/married share your story! If not...well, comment anyway...or share a story you've heard about...Pregnant, hormonal women love to hear about sappy crap, you know? ;o)

Since I am not, I will just make up something :)
I flew out to Texas on the night of the season premier of Grey's Anatomy (which means I must love the man I flew out there for, in order to miss that!) Damian picked me up at the airport in Houston around 10:30 p.m. After a make-out session in the airport parking lot, and along side the interstate a few times on the way home, we finally got to his place. I walked in the door, and immediately sat down on the couch, telling Damian to turn on the Grey's Anatomy premier he had TiVo'd for me.
The next morning we get up early, say our goodbyes and load up Boss Hawg (the truck) for our trip back to Georgia...My first official roadtrip. Damian is in charge of the route, so I am just along for the ride. After hours in the truck, we drive up to this beautiful lake. Damian says we are going to take a break, and relax. There is a long dock, so we decide to take a walk. At the end of the dock is a boat, with a picnic basket, candles, and a blanket. Damian has arranged for us to have an evening ride. After dinner and watching the beautiful sunset, we laid on the boat watching the stars. Damian then turns to me, and tells me he doesn't want to live another day without being my husband, and pulls out a 7 carat diamond. I kiss him, and say yes, of course I'll marry you!
It was the sweetest proposal ever...on the lake, under the stars, and with all that on his mind he still remembered to record Grey's Anatomy the night before!
See...grownups still play pretend. How'd you like my story?
lol - if you get a 7 carat diamond, pawn that sucker, go buy a 3 carat, and then buy a house...and give me some of the extra $$$.
But on the off chance that you decide to actually wear that guady 7 carat ring, we are going to have to buy you some sort of arm prop to keep your arm from dragging the ground. ;o)
My husband and I dated for three years. He was stationed in Germany (for the army) for two of those years. Well, after he got back from Germany, he called me one day and said "lets get married!" and I said "okay!" He bought me a three stone princess cut, white gold engagement ring and we got married on labor day weekend. It was real spontaneous, nothing was planned. Therefore, I never had an extravagant proposal or anything, but it was perfect for us :)
Jess - I know alot of people who's hubbys were in the service and had the same type of wedding. Alot of them have a committment ceremony later...
That was sweet :) Mine proposed to me at the beach, at midnight. I want to see your ring he designed!
